The Jammu division of Northern Railway has opened two newly constructed platforms, while two more have been reopened after reconstruction, officials confirmed on Thursday.
Platforms 6 and 7, developed as part of the Jammu Tawi railway station redevelopment project, have become operational for all trains. Platforms 4 and 5 have also become operational, said officials at the railway station. All seven platforms are now officially operational at Jammu railway station.
Public Relations Inspector Raghvender Singh said, " To enhance passenger convenience and facilitate the increasing rail traffic at Jammu Tawi Station, Northern Railway and Jammu (Railway) Division have opened the newly constructed platforms numbers 6 and 7 for the operation of all trains under the station redevelopment work.”
He added, "Platforms 4 and 5 have also been made fully operational, boosting passenger handling capacity and facilitating the transportation of goods to and from the Union Territory."
Shortly after the inauguration, Train No. 12413 arrived at the newly constructed Platform 6 on Wednesday.
Singh added, “Passengers who travel frequently expressed satisfaction with the re-operationalisation of the existing platforms along with the opening of new platforms at the railway station. This will make train operations smoother, reduce halting time and provide relief from overcrowding," he said. He requested passengers to check train schedules and platform information from station announcements and display boards.
“We appeal to passengers to use the foot overbridges (FOBs) and signage built to access the new platforms and to follow the instructions of railway staff,” Singh said.
