A major inspection of 20 pharmaceutical manufacturing units was conducted across Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, and officials found irregularities in four of them, authorities said.
The drive was carried out jointly by the Himachal Pradesh Police and the State Drugs Control Administration. The officials said that legal action, as per the rules, is now being taken against the units where violations were detected.
The inspections were conducted in six districts. These included two units each in Una and Bilaspur, four in Solan, one in Sirmaur, one in police district Nurpur, and 10 manufacturing units in police district Baddi. Checks in five more units are still in progress.
The main aim of the campaign was to stop the illegal manufacturing of banned drugs and prevent their misuse. The team also inspected units that were closed, temporarily or permanently suspended, or had surrendered their licences.
Recent intelligence inputs warned that some closed or inactive units might be used for the secret production of illegal drugs, including counterfeit medicines and psychotropic substances.
The teams checked the licence status of each unit, examined documents, verified stock records, and carried out detailed physical inspections to confirm compliance.
Warehouses and production areas were searched thoroughly. Officials said the entire inspection process was carried out with complete transparency and fairness.
