Four pilgrims from Punjab lost their lives, and 25 others were injured in a tragic road accident near Balley Hotel, Ikku Mod, on the Chamunda–Dharamsala road in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district on Friday morning.
The group had travelled from Moga, Punjab, to offer prayers at the Chamunda Devi temple and was returning home when the Mahindra pick-up they were travelling in veered off the road. According to preliminary reports, 29 people were on board and all sustained injuries.
One woman died at the accident site, while three others, one woman and two men, passed away later at Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical College and Hospital in Tanda. The deceased were identified as Jagsir Singh (38), son of Varyam Singh; Paramjeet Kaur (35), wife of Gurmel Singh; Kiran (35), wife of Sukhjinder Singh; and Sukhjinder Singh (35), son of Parkash Singh. All were residents of Baaghi Ke village in the Nihal Singh Wala sub-division of Moga district.
The remaining injured, including the driver Nirbhay Singh (34) and conductor Angrej Singh (38), both from the same village, are undergoing treatment at the medical college and are reported to be out of danger.
Local SHO and senior police officers have reached the hospital to take statements from the injured. Initial investigations suggest the group was on its way back to Moga after visiting the Mata Chamunda Devi temple when the accident happened.
