Four young men from Haryana lost their lives and one sustained serious injuries in a tragic road accident near Asharodi in Dehradun during the early hours of Sunday. The accident took place in the Clementown police station area around 3:10 am, when a speeding Maruti Ritz car, en route from Saharanpur to Dehradun, rammed into the rear of a cement-laden truck.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the vehicle was completely mangled, trapping all five occupants inside. The police and emergency services rushed to the spot and had to cut through the wreckage to rescue the victims. The injured were shifted to Coronation/Doon Hospital via an 108 ambulance. Doctors declared four of them dead on arrival, while one youth is currently undergoing treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Ankush and Paras of Sonipat in Haryana, Ankit of Jind, Haryana and Naveen of Rohtak, Haryana.
This accident adds to a growing list of fatal crashes reported recently in Dehradun and surrounding areas, often attributed to high-speed driving, especially during late-night hours. A few days ago, a collision near Dhulkot (Dat Kali Temple) resulted in one fatality and left two others seriously injured.
The authorities have repeatedly urged drivers to adhere to speed limits, particularly on high-risk routes such as Rajpur Road, Mohkampur, and Sahastradhara Road, where overspeeding has led to multiple deadly incidents in recent weeks.
