Tourists will be allowed free entry to three of Agra’s prominent historical monuments — Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri and Mehtab Bagh —from 6 am to 12 noon on Sunday on the occasion of International Yoga Day. The decision has been announced by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which stated that no entry tickets will be issued at these sites during the specified hours. The initiative aims to promote awareness about the importance of yoga and encourage public participation in wellness activities.
Special yoga programmes will also be organised at all three monuments as part of the celebrations. Officials said the move is intended to blend cultural heritage with health awareness, drawing visitors to iconic sites while highlighting the benefits of yoga.
International Yoga Day, first observed globally on June 21, 2015, marks its 12th edition this year. The theme for 2026— “Yoga for Healthy Aging” — emphasises the role of yoga not only as a fitness routine for the young but also as a means to maintain physical and mental well-being in later years.
Yoga is widely recognised for improving flexibility, reducing stress, and promoting a healthier lifestyle. Across India and around the world, various events and mass participation programmes are being organised to mark the day, with people coming together to adopt yoga as a preventive and holistic health practice.
Smitha Kumar, Superintending Archaeologist (Agra Circle) of the ASI, confirmed that the free entry is being provided under the provisions of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Rules, 1959. She added that dedicated yoga sessions will be conducted at each of the three monuments during the morning hours.
Authorities expect a large number of visitors to take advantage of the free entry window while also participating in the Yoga Day activities at these historic sites.
