Fresh controversy has emerged in the alleged encounter killing of social media critic Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, with his family claiming discrepancies between the number of bullet injuries recorded by doctors and the version presented by the police, raising further questions over the incident already under judicial inquiry.
According to Tiwari's relatives, the information provided by the hospital regarding the number of bullet wounds does not match the police account. They have demanded a scientific and impartial investigation, contending that the inconsistencies can only be resolved through forensic examination and medical evidence.
A purported video statement of Dr M H Ansari, who was on duty at Ara Sadar Hospital when Tiwari was brought there in a critical condition, has added to the controversy. In the video, the doctor allegedly states that Tiwari had sustained four to five bullet injuries. According to him, three bullets struck the lower back while another hit the abdominal region. Owing to excessive blood loss, Tiwari was referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Tiwari's mother, Asha Devi, also questioned the official account, claiming that the family was initially informed that he had suffered only two or three bullet injuries. She alleged that, on reaching the hospital, they found more bullet wounds than previously indicated.
According to her, three bullets had struck the lower part of his body, one bullet had passed through his body and another had hit the middle of his waist. She alleged that severe blood loss ultimately led to his death.
The family has demanded that the post-mortem findings, medical records, ballistic examination and other forensic evidence be examined together to establish the exact sequence of events. They contend that unless these records are reconciled, several questions surrounding the encounter will remain unanswered.
The case has already generated political and public debate over the police action and the registration of the FIR. Calls for a transparent investigation have intensified following the latest claims.
The encounter is currently under investigation by retired judicial officer Vinod Kumar Sinha. Officials have not yet commented on the family's latest allegations, and no independent verification of the claims has been made.
