Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who is already under scrutiny in a disproportionate assets case, may face fresh legal trouble as the Punjab Police prepare to file a new FIR against him. The development comes after a raid at his residence that turned chaotic when his supporters allegedly clashed with law enforcement officials.
According to sources, the vigilance team had specific information stating that key documents linked to a major investigation were stored at Majithia’s home. However, as the team arrived to conduct the search, Majithia’s supporters allegedly obstructed the operation, leading to a volatile situation.
The investigation team has accused Majithia of inciting violence, physically confronting officials, attempting to destroy evidence, and encouraging his supporters to attack the police.
The vigilance team had registered a complaint that Majithia's supporters were deliberately provoked to stop the search at the location.
Officials say the property in question is closely tied to a case involving ₹540 crore in suspected drug money. It is also alleged that international drug traffickers had previously stayed at the location, further deepening the significance of the raid.
A formal complaint has been filed, and police say further action, including a fresh FIR, is likely as investigations continue.
