Suspected militants launched a fresh bomb attack in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Friday morning, damaging at least two structures, police reported.
Rockets were fired from elevated positions in the hill areas of Churachandpur district towards the low-lying residential area of Tronglaobi, around 45 km from state capital Imphal, police said.
The range of the rockets was estimated to be over 3 km. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but a community hall and an empty room were damaged by the bombing.
According to sources, the suspected militants also fired several rounds towards Bishnupur district, prompting security forces to retaliate.
On Thursday night, Kumbi village, just a few kilometres from Tronglaobi, saw tension rise as multiple drones were spotted hovering less than 100 metres above the ground, according to eyewitnesses.
Earlier on Sunday, in what is believed to be the first instance of weaponised drones targeting civilians in India, two people were killed and nine others injured in Manipur.
Subsequent drone attacks on Monday led to the destruction of three India Reserve Battalion bunkers in Meikhang village, Imphal East district.
