The State Election Commission of Nagaland has declared the poll conducted on June 26 at Polling Station No. 4 under Ward 20 of Dimapur Municipal Council as void.
Following the provisions of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, and the Nagaland Municipal Election Rules, 2023, a fresh election has been scheduled for June 28.
The decision to annul the poll was made based on the report submitted by the Returning Officer of Dimapur Municipal Council, taking into account all pertinent circumstances.
Polling Station No. 4, encompassing areas such as Circuit House Area, W/W- Ura Villa, Circuit House & Imkonglenden Colony, will see the re-election conducted from 7:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
Authorities have been directed by the State Election Commission to ensure extensive publicity in the affected polling station areas.
They are also tasked with informing all political parties and contesting candidates about the rescheduled poll on June 28, ensuring transparency and adherence to electoral procedures.
A notable voter turnout of 83.54% marked the Urban Local Bodies Elections (ULB) held across three Municipalities and 21 Town Councils on June 26.
This election holds historical significance for Nagaland, being conducted after a gap of 20 years, and notably included 33% reservation for women.
Voting occurred across 420 polling stations within 214 wards, featuring 523 candidates, including 198 women and 325 men.
According to the State Election Commission, polling proceeded smoothly across all stations except one under the Dimapur Municipal Council.
