Several areas of Himachal Pradesh, including Shimla, witnessed fresh rainfall over the past 24 hours, affecting daily life. However, there have been no reports of any loss of life or damage to property so far.
The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) stated that 75 roads remained blocked till Thursday evening. The rain also affected 29 electricity distribution transformers and disrupted five drinking water supply schemes across the state.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rain in Shimla and Sirmaur on Friday. Solan is likely to receive moderate to heavy showers, while Kullu, Mandi, Kinnaur, Hamirpur and Chamba may experience moderate rainfall. Light to moderate rain is expected in Kangra, Una and Bilaspur, whereas Lahaul-Spiti is likely to receive light rainfall.
The weather department has also issued a yellow alert for several districts. It has warned of heavy to very heavy rain, strong winds and the possibility of flash floods over the next five days.
The IMD has further forecast gusty winds of 30-40 kmph in high-altitude areas such as Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti until July 15. Day temperatures across the state are also expected to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
For Shimla city, the weather office said light to moderate rain, along with a few intense spells, is likely to continue for the next few hours. The rainfall is expected to ease gradually after that.
Despite the rainy weather, tourists continue to arrive in Shimla. Visitors are enjoying the cool climate, mist-covered hills, green valleys and scenic views created by the recent showers.
The fresh rain has added to Shimla's charm, attracting visitors from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and other parts of the country. Even though it is the lean tourist season, the number of visitors remains high, with many saying they feel safe while exploring the hill station.
