Mud and floodwaters inundate a residential area in Arunachal Pradesh after incessant rainfall triggered fresh floods and landslides across the state, affecting more than 94,000 people.

Fresh floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall have caused widespread damage across Arunachal Pradesh, affecting more than 94,000 people, even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast a gradual reduction in rainfall from Friday.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), fresh incidents of flooding and landslides were reported over the past 24 hours from Keyi Panyor, Upper Siang, Tirap, Changlang, Papum Pare and Upper Subansiri districts, damaging houses, roads, agricultural land and public infrastructure.

The IMD has forecast an improvement in weather conditions from July 10, with rainfall activity expected to ease across much of the state. While Orange Alerts will remain in force for Papum Pare, Lower Dibang Valley and Tirap districts on Friday, most areas are expected to be free of weather warnings by Saturday. However, eastern and foothill districts will continue under Yellow Alert until Monday due to the possibility of thunderstorms and heavy rain.

The latest spell of rain has affected several villages across Upper Siang, Tirap, Changlang, Papum Pare and Upper Subansiri districts, disrupting normal life and damaging public utilities.

The state has witnessed extensive destruction over the past two weeks, with six people losing their lives in rain-related incidents. On Wednesday, two labourers from Bihar were killed after a landslide struck a construction site in Lohit district. Two women swept away by flash floods in Keyi Panyor on June 24 remain missing despite ongoing search operations.

According to the SEOC, 94,201 people across 333 villages, 237 circles and 26 districts have been affected by the floods and landslides.

The disaster has damaged 334.2 hectares of crop area, including horticulture and agricultural land, besides affecting nearly 1,010 hectares of forest.

Public infrastructure has also suffered heavy losses, with damage reported to 131 roads, 19 bridges, 21 culverts, 191 water supply systems, 58 government buildings, 21 power lines, 224 electric poles, four hydel projects, two hospitals and three schools, along with hundreds of houses.

Two relief camps remain operational in Keyi Panyor district, sheltering 252 people, while rescue, relief and restoration work continues across the affected areas.
