Fresh snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir brought normal life to a complete standstill on Tuesday, as air, surface and rail traffic remained suspended due to adverse weather conditions and low visibility.
According to a traffic department advisory, the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) remained closed on Tuesday after it was only partially restored for traffic on Monday.
Officials said traffic to and from Srinagar had been halted due to fresh accumulation of snow on the roads, making driving conditions extremely dangerous.
In addition, alternative routes—including the historic Mughal Road, the SSG Road and Sinthan Top—were closed to all kinds of traffic amid ongoing snowfall at various locations.
The traffic department advisory has urged travellers to avoid undertaking journeys or to postpone them until weather conditions improve.
Commuters have been advised to check the latest status on the Traffic Police’s official X handle @Traffic_hqrs, the Facebook page facebook.com/jammuandkashmirtrafficpolice, or contact the nearest Traffic Control Units (TCUs).
Most parts of the Kashmir Valley received the season’s second snowfall on Tuesday as a fresh western disturbance brought moderate snowfall to urban areas, while heavy snowfall continued in rural and remote areas.
