Most Kashmir parts, including the summer capital Srinagar, received a fresh snowfall on Sunday.
Apart from Srinagar, moderate snowfall was recorded in several districts of north Kashmir and some parts of central Kashmir’s Budgam and Ganderbal districts in the morning, officials said.
The higher reaches have also received moderate to heavy snowfall; it stopped snowing in most parts of central Kashmir on Monday morning with forecasts of more snowfall till today evening.
The temperatures have also witnessed some improvement from the past 48 hours, providing some respite from the intense cold wave conditions prevailing in the region for the last three weeks.
While on the side, the fresh snowfall brought cheers to the local population and incoming tourists. The snowfall has affected the flight operations at the Srinagar airport.
All flights have been delayed by several hours due to the fresh snow accumulation on the runway, officials said.
“The snow clearance operation is in progress at the runway. All airlines have pushed their flights after 9:30 am,” an Airports Authority of India official said.
This is the second time within 72 hours that all flights have been grounded due to inclement weather conditions. On Saturday, several flights faced delays, diversions, and cancellations as a result of the low visibility conditions.
