Several parts of Kashmir Valley received fresh snowfall on Saturday, while other areas witnessed light to moderate rainfall, disrupting normal life, officials said.

The plains in south Kashmir’s Anantnag, Shopian, Kulgam, and Pulwama districts recorded a fresh spell of snowfall.

Meanwhile, several districts in north Kashmir, including the popular tourist destinations of Gulmarg and Sonamarg, experienced moderate snowfall, officials stated.

Gurez in Bandipora district, parts of Kupwara, and several areas in the valley’s higher reaches also recorded significant snowfall, which was continuing at the time of the last reports, they added.

Meanwhile, Srinagar and parts of Budgam district in central Kashmir received widespread moderate rainfall, which persisted throughout the day. This marks the third consecutive day of uninterrupted rainfall in the region, impacting daily life and forcing the closure of schools in the higher reaches.

Heavy rains have also led to waterlogging in several parts of Srinagar, causing inconvenience to commuters and shoppers in the city centre.

The meteorological department has forecast intermittent spells of light to moderate rainfall across most areas on Saturday, with snowfall expected in the higher reaches.

"There is a possibility of intermittent brief spells of light rain or snow at several places towards Sunday morning," the Met Office stated.

The weather is expected to improve by the afternoon, it added.

The MeT department has urged Kashmir-bound travellers and tourists to adhere to the traffic advisory issued by the Jammu and Kashmir traffic police.

It also cautioned against travelling to avalanche-prone zones due to the risk posed by continued snowfall.
