Fresh spells of moderate to heavy rainfall lashed Delhi-NCR Tuesday morning, bringing a pleasant drop in temperatures and much relief from hot and humid weather conditions. This relief came alongside localized waterlogging and traffic slowdowns.
Moderate rainfall lashed several parts of Delhi-NCR bringing relief from the humid conditions that had prevailed over the past few days, even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued nowcast warnings for thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and gusty winds across several states.
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall in the national capital through the day, with dense cloud cover likely to keep temperatures in check. The maximum temperature is expected to remain between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is likely to settle between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius.
The weather department has also issued district-wise now cast warnings for several states for the next two to three hours.A Red Alert has been issued for Patiala district in Punjab, indicating severe weather conditions requiring immediate action. The IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds of up to 60 kmph and heavy rainfall exceeding 15 mm per hour. Residents have been advised to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
Orange Alerts have been issued for several districts across multiple states where thunderstorms with lightning, wind speeds of 40-60 kmph and moderate to heavy rainfall of 5-15 mm per hour or more are very likely.In Punjab, the warning covers Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana, Sangrur and SAS Nagar. In Uttar Pradesh, alerts have been issued for Amethi, Ayodhya, Barabanki, Fatehpur, Hardoi, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Lucknow, Pratapgarh, Raebareli and Unnao.
The IMD advised residents in the affected districts to remain vigilant and follow safety precautions. People have been urged to avoid taking shelter under trees or weak structures during thunderstorms, check road and traffic conditions before travelling, stay away from flood- and landslide-prone areas, and comply with advisories issued by local authorities and disaster management agencies.
The weather department said updated forecasts, including district-wise nowcast warnings and other weather advisories, are available on its official weather portal. Authorities are closely monitoring the evolving weather situation and have urged residents to stay informed through official channels.
