In an extraordinary tale of courage, resilience and academic brilliance, 17-year-old Kafi, a visually impaired student and acid attack survivor from Chandigarh, has emerged as the topper of her school in the CBSE class 12 examinations, securing an outstanding 95.6 per cent in the humanities stream.
Kafi’s story is one of firm determination and remarkable valour. When she was just three years old, she lost her eyesight in a brutal acid attack by neighbours in Hisar, Haryana. Despite that life-changing incident, she has never allowed adversity to define her. She began her formal education at the age of eight after enrolling at the Institute for the Blind in Sector 26, Chandigarh.
Her academic excellence was evident right from the beginning — she scored an impressive 95.2 per cent in her Class 10 board exams, also topping her school at the time. This year, she has continued her stellar performance, achieving full marks in history, political science, geography, and painting, along with an almost perfect score in English.
Kafi now aims to pursue a BA Honours degree in political science at Delhi University, with the aspiration of joining the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
Driven by a deep desire to serve the nation and bring a positive change, her vision for the future is as bold as her journey so far.
Despite the trauma of her past and the fact that justice has not been served against the perpetrators of the attack, Kafi continues to move forward to pursue her dreams with remarkable resilience and grace. Her achievements have brought immense pride to her family, teachers, and peers, while inspiring countless others across the country.
Kafi's story highlights the value of perseverance and is a source of inspiration to everyone, reminding us that with will and support, even the most intimidating challenges can be overcome.
