Funds disbursed to 1.7 cr Ladki Bahin beneficiaries: Shinde

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde launched the scheme's second phase with Deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis, Ajit Pawar, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Women and Child Welfare Minister Aditi Tatkare.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Saturday that the Majhi Ladki Bahin Scheme will be expanded to benefit 2.5 crore women across the state. So far, the state government has transferred funds into the bank accounts of 1.7 crore beneficiaries.

The announcement was made during the launch of the scheme's second phase at Reshimbagh ground, attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Women and Child Welfare Minister Aditi Tatkare.

"We were not born with a golden spoon. We come from farming families and know the value of Rs 1,500," Shinde said, emphasising the scheme's importance.

The Ladki Bahin Scheme provides a monthly allowance of Rs 1,500 to married, divorced, and destitute women aged 21 to 60, with a family income ceiling of Rs 2.5 lakh per annum.

Shinde highlighted that in the scheme's first phase, funds were deposited into the bank accounts of 1.7 crore women. "Today, we transferred money to 52 lakh women, and we will ensure that the remaining funds are disbursed soon," he said, aiming to extend the scheme to 2.5 crore women.

The chief minister also criticised the opposition for their earlier doubts about the scheme's implementation. "This government doesn’t take money, it gives money. The opposition claimed that funds wouldn’t reach people’s bank accounts, but now that beneficiaries are receiving the money, they’re being told to withdraw it quickly," he remarked.
