A gangster was arrested after a brief exchange of fire with the police in Peerawali village in Hisar, officials said on Saturday. The accused, Pawan alias Musa, was shot in the leg during the encounter. He was later taken to the civil hospital for treatment.
Police said they had received a tip-off about his presence in the area. Acting on the information, a team carried out a raid on Friday night.
When Pawan saw the police approaching, he allegedly opened fire. Two bullets struck the bulletproof jackets of two policemen. Police retaliated, and during the exchange, Pawan was hit in the leg.
According to officials, Pawan is facing over 25 criminal cases in Hisar and other cities and states. Police also recovered the weapon used by him during the incident.
