The Yamunanagar Police shot dead a wanted criminal named Bheem alias Bikeshwar in an encounter early Wednesday morning on Ratoli-Khera road.
The operation was carried out under the directions of Superintendent of Police (SP) Kamaldeep Goyal as part of the district’s ongoing anti-gangster drive. Bheem had a ₹20,000 reward on his head and was wanted in several serious criminal cases.
Police sources said Bheem was facing 7 to 8 charges, including attempted murder, extortion, drug trafficking, and possession of illegal weapons. Acting on a tip-off about his location, the police reached the area to arrest him. However, Bheem opened fire on the police, forcing them to retaliate.
In the exchange of gunfire, several rounds were fired from both sides. One bullet hit a policeman’s jacket, but no officers were injured. Bheem was shot during the encounter and died on the spot.
Originally from Ayodhya, Bheem had recently been living in Azad Nagar, Yamunanagar. Just days earlier, he had allegedly fired shots at the homes of two local businessmen, Bobby and Ravi, spreading fear in the area near the ITI.
Police said a weapon, live cartridges and a motorcycle were allegedly recovered from the location.
Responding to questions, SP Goyal Noni Rana is also wanted gangster who has remained associated with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Efforts are being made to apprehend him too.
