Bhopal witnessed a "Gen Alpha" protest as students from the Regional School demonstrated against a proposed merger connecting the Demonstration Multipurpose School (DMS) with the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS). The pupils gathered outside the premises, raising slogans against the administrative shift and voicing fears that the move could erode the school's foundational mission of advancing educational innovation and experimental pedagogy.
Demonstrating students highlighted that Demonstration Multipurpose Schools, popularly known as Regional Schools, have operated under the umbrella of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) since December 1965. Set up across four cities — Bhopal, Ajmer, Mysuru, and Bhubaneswar — these experimental centres were established to trial pioneering teaching techniques and refine progressive educational models before broader implementation.
Opposing the restructuring, students and associated staff maintained that placing these institutions under an alternative governing framework risks diluting their distinct identity and disrupting ongoing academic experiments. During the demonstration, pupils made clear their refusal to accept the proposal and formally submitted a memorandum detailing their objections to Regional College principal Professor SK Gupta.
The protesters called for the immediate withdrawal of the plan, demanding that the existing operational model of these experimental schools be preserved and reinforced as centres for educational research. The students also warned that they would escalate their campaign through phased, peaceful actions across relevant departments if authorities fail to address their concerns, marking the onset of growing local resistance to the proposed merger.
