Kaithal administration sounds alert as Ghaggar river swells.


With the Ghaggar river rising after persistent rain, fear has spread across almost three dozen villages, leading the Kaithal administration to sound an alert.

 

At the Tatiana gauge, the river discharge touched 42,548 cusecs on Monday morning, reaching a level of 21.1 feet by 11 am on Monday. Though this is still below the danger mark of 23 feet, officials raised the alarm as a precaution. Villagers have been asked to stay alert and cautious.

 

Deputy Commissioner Preeti visited the site on Sunday, reviewing arrangements and checking flood-prone areas. She told officials to stay on standby and focus on people’s safety.

 

Flood control rooms have been set up at the district headquarters and at Guhla sub-division. The DC assured that all steps are in place for a quick response if the situation worsens.
