After recovery of an AK-47 gun from the locker of doctor in Anantnag Government Medical College premises, the Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar has issued a circular directing all faculty members, heads of departments, paramedical staff, and students to personally identify and label their lockers with their name, designation, and code by November 14, 2025. The said doctor by name of Adeel has been found among prime accused in Delhi car blast on Monday.
The notice, issued by the Administrator of Associated Hospitals, GMC Srinagar, states that following this date, inspections will be conducted by the Medical Superintendents of Government SMHS Hospital, RMOs of respective floors, and the Estates-cum-Transport Officer to identify and remove lockers unnecessarily occupying corridors and other areas of the hospital and college buildings.
The circular explicitly mentions that no employee will be allowed to claim any locker left unidentified after the deadline.Furthermore, the Estates, Office, and Accounts Sections have been instructed not to issue any Last Pay Certificate (LPC), No Objection Certificate (NOC), or Service Book at the time of an employee’s transfer until their individual locker is properly handed over.
Officials said the move aims to improve workplace discipline and clear unused lockers that have cluttered vital hospital corridors.The circular, signed by the Administrator on November 11, 2025, has been sent to the Principal of GMC Srinagar, the Medical Superintendent of SMHS Hospital, and all section heads and officers for strict compliance.
Pertinently, an AK-47 rifle was recovered from the locker of a former senior resident doctor at Government Medical College (GMC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag, police said on Friday. Srinagar Police, with assistance from the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) Anantnag, seized the weapon at the college premises and have detained the individual for interrogation.
The doctor has been identified as Adeel Ahmad Rather, son of Abdul Majeed Rather, and a resident of Qazigund in Anantnag. He had been serving as a senior resident doctor at GMC Anantnag until October 24, 2024.
