Himachal Pradesh Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh announced today that the Union Government has sanctioned Rs 267 crore for various road infrastructure projects in the state, including the construction and improvement of national highways.
This funding marks the first phase of financial assistance from the central government, following a total capital expenditure request of Rs 1,400 crore submitted by the state for the financial year 2025-26. The approval of this allocation is expected to significantly enhance road connectivity and safety across Himachal Pradesh.
The Minister stated that he had consistently pursued the matter with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, emphasising the need for expedited approvals and fund disbursement to support critical road projects in the region.
He expressed his gratitude to the Union Minister for his support in sanctioning the funds, which will enable the state to initiate essential infrastructure developments.
Among the approved projects, significant investments have been made to improve road connectivity in various districts. In Chamba and Una, three new bridges will be constructed in each district to enhance transportation networks. Additionally, Rs 54.37 crore has been allocated for landslide mitigation on the Nigulsari-Nathpa road, a crucial route prone to frequent disruptions.
Another Rs 40.85 crore has been sanctioned for landslide mitigation measures near Keru Bridge on the Katori Bangra-Banikhet-Chamba-Bharmour road, addressing safety concerns in one of the region’s key transport corridors.
Further investments have been directed toward land acquisition and road expansion projects. An amount of ₹48 crore has been approved for acquiring land and widening the road to two lanes near Bhatti Nala Bridge on the Katori Bhangra-Banikhet-Chamba-Bharmour road, improving traffic flow and accessibility.
In Una district, Rs 24.27 crore has been sanctioned for the preparation of a detailed project report for the construction of two bridges over Barna and Bore Wali Khad, along with other associated works. Additionally, Rs 36.93 crore has been allocated for the construction of a bridge over the Swan River, which will play a key role in enhancing connectivity in the region.

A portion of the funds has also been earmarked for the maintenance and strengthening of existing road networks across the state. This includes critical repairs and improvements to roads such as the Kalka-Shimla-Wangtu road, which passes through Theog Bypass, as well as the Dhalli-Theog-Narkanda-Rampur road.
Similarly, repair work will be undertaken at vulnerable locations along the Saij-Luhri-Aut road to ensure safer travel conditions. In addition, metalling, tarring, and the construction of culverts will be carried out on several roads to enhance their durability and usability.
Providing an update on the highly anticipated Jalori Jot Tunnel project, the Public Works Minister stated that the alignment work for the tunnel has been successfully completed.
A detailed project report, estimated at Rs 1,452 crore, is currently in the final stages of preparation. The tunnel, which will span a total length of 4.156 km, is expected to significantly improve all-weather connectivity in the region, reducing travel time and providing a more reliable transportation link.
The project report is expected to be finalised within the current financial year, marking a crucial step toward its eventual implementation.
The Minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to strengthening road infrastructure and improving connectivity across Himachal Pradesh. He emphasised that these projects, once completed, will not only enhance transportation facilities for residents but also support tourism and economic growth by ensuring smoother and safer travel across the region.
