Thirty individuals detained at Lucknow airport for allegedly smuggling gold into the country managed to escape after one of them faked illness, sparking chaos, officials stated.
Customs and police authorities have launched a search operation to apprehend the suspects, they added.
Shashank Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, mentioned that officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and the Customs Department intercepted 36 passengers arriving from Sharjah at Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport on Monday.

During the frisking process, officials discovered cigarettes valued at over Rs 3 crore and cash amounting to Rs 23.90 lakh on some of the passengers, Singh revealed.
He added that six passengers admitted to carrying gold.
On Tuesday, while the remaining 30 passengers were being questioned, one of them faked illness, causing disruption. Exploiting the situation, all of them absconded, the officer explained.
He concluded that a case has been lodged under relevant sections based on the complaint, and efforts are underway to apprehend the suspects.
