A goods train derailment in Rajasthan’s Sikar district late on Tuesday night saw as many as 38 wagons come off the tracks on the Ringas-Shrimadhopur rail corridor. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The exact cause of the derailment remains under scrutiny, with two conflicting accounts emerging. It has been reported that the accident occurred after a bull suddenly came onto the tracks. However, railway officials suggested the incident happened while the train, which was carrying rice from Phulera to Rewari, was being diverted from the main line to the loop line. Officials noted that the derailment of a single wagon led to approximately 37 subsequent wagons coming off the tracks in succession.
Rai Jain, the Jaipur Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the North Western Railway (NWR), confirmed the incident occurred in the B cabin area near Shrimadhopur railway station. The affected train comprised 16 empty wagons and 22 loaded with rice sacks, with two tracks of the freight corridor being rendered unusable.
The incident, which occurred just hours after a separate goods train derailment in the Bikaner district, has caused complete disruption to rail traffic on the Ringas-Shrimadhupur corridor. Consequently, many trains have been asked to stop, while numerous others were diverted onto alternative routes.
After the accident, high-level railway officials and technical teams promptly secured the site. Relief and rescue efforts are underway, with teams working through the night with cranes and heavy equipment to clear the derailed wagons. Railway officials expect clearing the wreckage and beginning repair work to take several hours. The administration in the area is watchful, and the Railways have appealed to passengers and citizens to ignore rumours, and requesting them to trust only official updates while the disruption is ongoing.
