Mizoram on Wednesday unfurled its tallest national flag as Governor VK Singh hoisted the Tricolour atop a 108-foot pole at the Assam Rifles base in Zokhawsang on the eastern outskirts of Aizawl.
Calling it a moment of historic significance for the state, the Governor said the unfurling reflected harmony, hope and unity among the people. The ceremony was held on Christmas Eve and attended by senior civil and military officials, ex-servicemen, locals and schoolchildren.
Singh lauded the Assam Rifles and the Flag Foundation of India for selecting Zokhawsang as the site for the monumental flag installation, noting its symbolic value for Mizoram.
State Home Minister K Sapdanga, addressing the gathering, said the national flag represents unity, patriotism, selfless sacrifice and hope for a brighter future.
