Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan arrived in Srinagar on Saturday and chaired a high-level security review meeting at the Police Headquarters here. The meeting focused on reviewing security arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, which is scheduled to begin on July 3.
Govind Mohan reached the headquarters between 11 am and 12 pm and is likely to return to New Delhi by 5 pm the same day.
The meeting was attended by top officials of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Intelligence Bureau, the GOC Northern Command, GOCs of the 15 and 16 Corps, the CRPF, the SSB and the BSF.
The high-level security review covered the multi-layered security grid, intelligence coordination, deployment of forces, use of advanced technology and logistical preparedness for the annual pilgrimage.
The review aimed to ensure foolproof security along the traditional Pahalgam and Baltal routes, as well as at the base camps in Nunwan and Baltal.
The meeting came a week after Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a similar high-level review, which was attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and senior Army and police officials.
As part of the security arrangements, authorities have approved the deployment of approximately 700 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) for the Yatra.
