Govt to involve public in fight against drugs

Village-level, ward-level defence committees comprising 10-20 members each will be set up to keep an eye on drug peddlers

The Punjab government is all set to launch the second leg of the “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh” campaign by involving the public in the war against drugs.

 

Under this phase, the government will form village-level and ward-level defence committees comprising 10-20 members each, which will keep an eye on drug smugglers, peddlers and consumers in association with the police.

 

While the first defence committees are being formed in Ludhiana, these committees will be set up in every village and ward of the state. Preference will be given to retired soldiers, teachers and senior officials while appointing members of these committees.
