In an interesting turn of events, the Haryana assembly elections will see a direct contest between a grandfather and granddaughter from the Ballabhgarh constituency.

BJP candidate Moolchand Sharma is the grandfather of Congress candidate Parag Sharma.

They belong to Sadpura. Earlier, Parag's father Yogesh Sharma had contested elections from Ballabgarh on a Lok Dal ticket in 1987 and he had won. Yogesh has not won any election after that.

Two members of the same family have never contested elections face-to-face on the Ballabhgarh seat.

This is the first time that two relatives of a family are contesting elections.

Parag Sharma submitted her nomination papers on Thursday to the Assembly Constituency Registration, Election Officer, and SDM Mayank Bhardwaj.

After the announcement of Congress candidate, former Chief Parliamentary Secretary and Former MLA Sharda Rathore decided in a meeting held with her supporters to contest independent elections.

She also submitted her nomination paper on Thursday.

Congress has placed its bet on the young face of Parag Sharma from the Ballabhgarh assembly constituency. The decision is quite unexpected as Rathore has fought from the constituency and won twice.

Till now a total of 30 nomination papers have been submitted in the district.

Now Thursday is the last day to submit nomination papers.

Candidates from Congress, BJP, and AAP, have submitted nomination papers.

AAP candidate, Ravinder Faujdar will be seen in the contest.

In 2019 and 2014, BJP candidate Mool Chand Sharma won as an MLA by 51.39 per cent and 56.93 per cent of votes, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Congress candidate stood second both times.

According to the Election Commission, in 2014, there were 1,55,670 voters, out of whom 82,726 were male and 72,944 were female. 230 were service electors.
