An attempted grenade attack at an under-construction railway site near the Assam–Nagaland border was foiled after the explosive failed to detonate, officials said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on Monday afternoon at Rongaphar Siding in the Dhansiri area of Karbi Anglong, where railway infrastructure work is currently in progress. According to officials, an unidentified miscreant allegedly hurled a grenade at the construction site, but the device did not explode.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported among workers present at the site, and no damage was caused to the ongoing railway project.
Officials noted that the failure of the explosive to detonate prevented what could have been a serious incident.
Police personnel rushed to the spot soon after receiving information and cordoned off the area. Security agencies have since launched an investigation and are collecting evidence from the site to identify those responsible for the attack.
The motive behind the attempted attack remains unclear, officials said, adding that further investigation is underway.
