National BJP leader and advocate Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal Bhukhri Kalan on Thursday condemned the grenade attack outside the BJP office in Chandigarh, calling it a serious threat to democracy and national security.
In a post on X, Grewal said the blast was not merely an attack on a political office but an assault on democracy and national security. He alleged that the claim of responsibility by Khalistani terrorist Sukhjinder Singh Babbar indicates attempts by terror networks to create fear and instability in the state.
According to Grewal, two unidentified persons allegedly arrived on a two-wheeler and hurled a crude explosive device near the BJP office around 5 pm, before fleeing. He said the incident reflects serious lapses in security arrangements and accused the state government of failing to control extremist activities.
Targeting the Bhagwant Mann-led government, Grewal claimed that the law and order situation in Punjab has deteriorated and that separatist networks appear to be regaining ground.
He further alleged that he recently faced a suspicious surveillance incident near his residence in Bhukhri Kalan village. Grewal said a Toyota Innova vehicle allegedly followed his car on March 27 and sped away when he and his security personnel stepped out near his residence. The vehicle was reportedly seen again in the area, raising security concerns.
Grewal said he has submitted a representation to the Punjab Director General of Police and the Ludhiana Police Commissioner, seeking registration of an FIR, a detailed probe and enhanced security.
He added that despite threats and intimidation, he would continue to raise his voice against extremist and anti-India activities and urged the state government to take strict action against terror networks operating in Punjab.
