In a landmark moment for Indian cinema and the region of Jammu & Kashmir, Emraan Hashmi’s upcoming film Ground Zero has become the first movie in 38 years to host a red carpet premiere in Srinagar.
The prestigious event not only marks a cultural milestone but also reflects the evolving creative landscape of the region.
Hashmi, who stars in the lead role, arrived in Srinagar ahead of the premiere and expressed his excitement while interacting with the media. “We were shooting for about 30 days for Ground Zero, and I’m very happy to be back in Srinagar,” he said. “The weather is beautiful, much better than Mumbai. It feels great to return.”
More than just a film premiere, Hashmi emphasised the symbolic value of the occasion: “This is an important and symbolic moment for the people of Jammu & Kashmir. There’s so much talent here, but what’s needed is a platform—a proper medium through cinema and television—so that the youth can explore their creativity in any form.”
Directed by Tejas Deoskar and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under the banner of Excel Entertainment, Ground Zero is an intense action thriller.
The film tells the story of BSF officer Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey, who led a daring mission to track down the mastermind behind the 2001 terrorist attacks on the Indian Parliament and the Akshardham Temple.
Taking to social media, Hashmi shared a photo from Srinagar on Friday morning, writing on his X (formerly Twitter) handle:
“#GroundZero touchdown landmark day: first red carpet movie screening after 38 years in #Srinagar. This is a special movie screening to honour BSF soldiers and their officers.”
The film’s red carpet premiere is being held as a tribute to the bravery and dedication of the Border Security Force (BSF), aligning with the theme of the film. Ground Zero is slated for release on April 25, and is already generating significant buzz for its gripping storyline and its meaningful tribute to real-life heroes.
