The long wait for hundreds of Group-2 aspirants in Andhra Pradesh is finally nearing its end. On Tuesday, the High Court gave the green light to the APPSC to move ahead with appointments, effectively ending a legal deadlock that had stalled the process for months.
Justice Nyapathi Vijay dismissed a series of petitions that challenged the way special reservations —covering women, persons with disabilities, ex-servicemen, and sportspersons — were handled in the 2023 recruitment notification.
The court's decision clears the path for the state to fill 829 vacancies, a process that had been mired in litigation almost since the notification was first released. One of the most pressing voices raised a challenge by one M Parthasarathi, an aspirant based in Visakhapatnam, because the reservation roster fails to align with the supreme court’s landmark judgement on the RK Sabharwal case.
Another set of petitioners based in Kadapa, including one Kanuparthi Penchalaiah, questioned the need to establish separate reservation rosters for executives and non-executives because the measure contravened a government order that had been released earlier that year, namely 2023.
While the High Court had previously refused to stop the recruitment through an interim stay, this final dismissal of the batch of petitions removes the last remaining legal barriers. For the eligible candidates the focus now shifts to the APPSC, which is expected to begin issuing formal appointment orders shortly.
