Agartala GRP nab 22 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in 3 days

Eleven individuals, including children, apprehended at Agartala Railway Station on Monday (L). This follows a similar interception on Saturday involving 11 people attempting to board trains to various cities (R).


In a recent crackdown, the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Agartala detained 39 Bangladeshi nationals and five Indian touts over the past month.

 

The latest development saw 11 individuals, including children, apprehended on Monday at Agartala Railway Station.

 

Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of Agartala GRP, disclosed that acting on a tip-off late Sunday night, they apprehended 11 suspects who confessed to entering India from Bangladesh without valid documents.

 

They were arrested under the Indian Passport Act after initial interrogation.

 

Among the detainees, six are women and five are minors, underscoring concerns over illegal immigration from Bangladesh into India.

 

Over the past four days alone, 24 Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested at Agartala Railway Station.

 

This follows an earlier incident on Saturday when 11 individuals were intercepted while attempting to board trains destined for Chennai, Delhi, Karnataka, Odisha, and Kolkata.

 

The arrested individuals, aged between 19 and 36 years, include Md Sujan Rana, Azizul Shaik, Md Limon, Nargis Akhtar, Yousuf Ali, Sahidul Islam, Nipa Mandal, Akhe Begam, Omi Akhtar, Sajib Ali, and Asma Biswas.

 

In a separate incident on Friday, two Bangladeshi women were apprehended at Agartala Railway Station for illegally entering Tripura with intentions to travel to Karnataka for employment.
