Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Saturday approved the allocation of ₹7,737 crore for 124 projects aimed at significantly strengthening the state's road infrastructure. In this year's budget, the state government had previously announced plans to develop 12 new high-speed corridors, designated the 'Garvi Gujarat High-Speed Corridor,' intended to make the road network more robust and alleviate heavy traffic congestion.
On Saturday, the Chief Minister approved the development of nine of these high-speed corridors, covering a total length of 809 km, at a cost of ₹5,576 crore. The aim is to make these roads safer and more convenient for commuters, according to an official release. Corridors earmarked for this revamp include Bagodara - Barwala - Botad, Mendarda- Keshod-Mangrol, Unjha-Patan-Sihori-Deodar-Bhabhar, Karjan-Dabhoi-Bodeli, and Ahmedabad-Harsol- Gambhoi-Vijayanagar.
The government stated that these new high-speed corridors will accelerate transportation, improve logistics efficiency under the 'PM Gati Shakti' initiative, and significantly reduce operational costs. The release added that the corridors will improve connectivity between major cities and boost tourism and economic development in the surrounding regions.
The Chief Minister also approved ₹1,147 crore to develop 271 km of roads that are climate-resilient. The construction of these roads will utilise sustainable materials, including plastic waste, white topping, cement stabilisation, and fly-ash, making the roads stronger and more environmentally friendly.
In addition, the Chief Minister approved ₹986 crore to resurface 803 km of existing roads across the state.
