Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi launched the 'Cyber Financial Fraud e-Zero FIR' service in Gandhinagar on Monday, aimed at accelerating the registration and investigation of cybercrime cases by allowing victims to initiate legal proceedings without visiting a police station.
An official statement from the Chief Minister's Office explained that complaints logged via the national cybercrime helpline, 1930, will now automatically generate an e-Zero FIR. This electronic report is then instantly dispatched to the relevant local police station to ensure swift law enforcement action.
During the launch event, Sanghavi pointed out that the government is still utilising digital technology to ensure faster and transparent policing. In his remark, he emphasised that the e-Zero FIR scheme helps the victims file complaints regarding fraud online from their homes, which makes recovery of the stolen money possible.
The director general of police, Gyanendra Singh Malik, urged all the units working in the state to ensure promptness in dealing with the complaints filed by the victims. Moreover, the inspector general of police for Cyber Centre of Excellence, Bipin Ahire, said that the scheme was created in collaboration with Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre of the Ministry of Home Affairs. He outlined that following the automatic creation of a Zero FIR via helpline calls, local officers will contact the victim, gather essential details, formally register the case, and launch an immediate probe.
The system has already seen its first success, according to the release. An Ahmedabad resident who fell victim to a financial scam involving a fraudulent "digital arrest" had an e-Zero FIR registered on their behalf. The swift response by the Cyber Crime Department enabled officers to intervene in time and successfully safeguard over ₹15.76 lakh of the victim's funds.
