The famous tourist attraction and ski resort of Gulmarg has received the season’s first snowfall during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
The Apharwat and Sunshine peaks were blanketed in white, drawing excitement from both tourists and locals. The early seasonal snowfall transformed the landscape into a picturesque winter scene, delighting visitors who were seen enjoying the beautiful landscape.
Travellers described the scene as breathtaking, while locals associated with the tourism industry expressed hope that the fresh snowfall would attract more visitors in the coming days.
Tourists, who have arrived recently in the Valley, said “This is a surprise for us.” One of the visitors while describing the White Mountain peaks said “It’s a magical experience. Gulmarg peaks are covered in snow in October itself.”
“We didn’t expect this surprise,” another visitor said while capturing photographs against the snow-covered backdrop.
The Meteorological Department confirmed light snowfall over the higher reaches of Gulmarg, while the plains of the Valley received rainfall accompanied by a dip in temperature.
Locals and tourism stakeholders voiced optimism that the snowfall would boost tourist footfall at the resort in the weeks ahead.
Earlier, on August 19, Sonamarg, another famous tourist resort, had received its first snowfall of the season. Early snowfall is common in hill stations across Jammu and Kashmir.
