Gurugram court sends father to custody in tennis player murder.

A Gurugram court on Friday remanded 49-year-old Deepak Yadav to one-day police custody after he allegedly shot and killed his 25-year-old daughter, Radhika Yadav. Radhika was a former national-level tennis player. The court called it a “serious matter” that warrants thorough investigation.

Station House Officer Vinod Kumar said, “We’ve shared the motive. He was upset about the tennis academy run by Radhika. There’s no evidence so far suggesting an honour killing. We had sought a two-day remand.”

According to an FIR filed by Radhika’s uncle, Kuldeep Yadav, the incident occurred while Radhika was cooking. Deepak allegedly shot her from behind, firing three times. Kuldeep said he heard a loud noise around 10:30 am on Thursday and rushed upstairs, where he found his niece lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen. The licensed revolver was found in the drawing room.

“My niece was a very good tennis player. She had won several trophies. I’m shocked by what happened,” Kuldeep told the police. He and his son, Piyush, took Radhika to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

“It affected my dignity. I was very stressed. So I shot her.”

Tensions between Radhika and her father had reportedly escalated in recent days, particularly over the tennis academy she was running in Sector 57. Investigators say Deepak had repeatedly asked her to shut it down, but she refused.

During interrogation, Deepak confessed to the murder. He reportedly told the police he was frustrated by ongoing arguments and felt humiliated by gossip in his native village.

“Whenever I went to Wazirabad to get milk, people would say I was living off my daughter’s income. Some even questioned her character. I was extremely disturbed and told her to close the academy, but she didn’t listen,” he said.

“It affected my dignity. I was very stressed. So I shot her,” he added.

Father was financially well-off; police probing other angles

Investigators found that Deepak was financially well-off, earning ₹15–17 lakh per month from multiple rental properties in Gurugram. He also owns a luxury farmhouse and is known in Wazirabad as a wealthy landlord.

The police are also exploring other possible motives, including Radhika’s recent appearance in a music video, which Deepak had allegedly objected to and asked her to remove from social media. Officers are also questioning her mother to understand her role and whereabouts at the time of the incident.

Meanwhile, those who knew Radhika are in shock and grief. She is remembered as a passionate athlete and entrepreneur whose life was cut tragically short.
