The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has issued a weather advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, forecasting strong, gusty winds along with spells of light rain over the next six to eight hours.
Isolated locations in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions may experience rain and thunderstorms, accompanied by strong surface winds reaching speeds of 60-70 km/h during the afternoon and late afternoon of 28 March.
Mainly dry weather is expected from 29 to 31 March, with dry conditions likely to persist from 1 to 6 April.
Residents and visitors have been advised to take necessary precautions, while travellers, tourists, and transporters have been urged to adhere to administrative and traffic advisories.
Farmers may resume agricultural activities, but the general public has been cautioned to remain indoors and avoid boating, Shikara rides, and standing near weak structures or electric wires due to strong surface winds.
Meanwhile, on Thursday night, Srinagar experienced heavy, gusty winds, causing significant damage to vehicles and rooftops and disrupting the power supply.
Several areas in Srinagar reported property damage and power supply disruptions. The Srinagar administration swiftly assessed the impact and initiated restoration efforts.
Reports indicate that in Srinagar city, strong winds led to the destruction of several vehicles near the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC).
“No casualties were reported,” an official confirmed.
The administration and emergency response teams remain on high alert to manage any further damage or disruptions caused by ongoing weather conditions.
Residents have been advised to stay indoors and exercise caution as strong winds persist in some areas.
