Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati recorded its “highest-ever” international passenger and aircraft movements in 2024, since the Adani Group began managing its operations in October 2021, a company statement confirmed on Saturday.
The airport saw a notable increase in both domestic and international passenger traffic. It managed 6.26 million domestic passengers, alongside more than 85,000 international travellers.
Of the domestic passengers, 3.09 million were arrivals, and 3.17 million were departures. The international traffic included 47,578 arrivals and 38,528 departures.
LGBIA operates direct flights to three international destinations – Paro, Malaysia, and Singapore – which have significantly boosted the international passenger count and overall air traffic movements (ATMs).
The airport registered 44,746 domestic ATMs and 970 international ATMs during the year.
The year also saw the launch of three new domestic routes: Guwahati-Ahmedabad, Guwahati-Durgapur, and Guwahati-Ziro. These routes are expected to improve connectivity and foster trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.
The Guwahati International Airport Ltd (GIAL) reported handling 225 million tonnes of perishable cargo in December 2024, marking another record high for the facility.
Overall, the airport handled 10,089 million tonnes of cargo during the year.
In terms of customer service, LGBIA achieved ‘Level 2’ status in the Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Customer Experience Accreditation, reflecting its commitment to enhancing passenger experiences and continuous improvement.
Managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, GIAL is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) venture between AAHL and the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
