A 20-year-old woman working at a gym was allegedly shot dead by her co-worker in northwest Delhi’s Keshav Puram area on Wednesday night, police said. The accused, identified as 23-year-old Saurabh, fled the scene immediately after the incident. Police teams have launched a manhunt and are conducting raids at multiple locations to trace and arrest him.
According to police, both the victim and the accused worked in the same building. Saurabh had been employed there as a caretaker for the past three months, while the victim had been working at a gym in the premises for nearly three years.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Saurabh allegedly lured the woman to a room on the third floor on some pretext. An argument reportedly broke out between the two, following which he opened fire.
Hearing the gunshot, people nearby rushed to the spot and found the woman lying in a pool of blood. The accused had already escaped by then.
Police from the Keshav Puram police station, along with crime branch team personnel and forensic experts, reached the scene shortly after receiving information. Evidence was collected, and the body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
The victim’s father said she would speak to the family every evening but did not answer their calls on Wednesday. “Later, we were informed that someone had shot her,” he said.
Northwest Delhi DCP Akanksha Yadav confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of law and the investigation is ongoing. Police are probing all possible angles to ascertain the motive behind the murder.
