A tragic case involving the reported suicide of a woman gynecologist has taken a serious turn, with police booking her husband and in-laws on charges of dowry harassment.
The deceased, Dr Ria, was staying in government quarters at Civil Hospital, Fatehgarh Sahib. Police said the incident happened a few days ago and is being thoroughly investigated to ascertain what circumstances led to her death.
According to ASI Prithviraj Singh, Ria had been married for three years. Her in-laws, residing in Chandigarh, were allegedly pressuring her for dowry. It is also alleged that they recently demanded an Innova car, which added to her mental stress.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Prithviraj Singh said Ria had been married for the past three years. Her in-laws, who live in Chandigarh, were allegedly pressuring her for dowry. It is further alleged that the family recently demanded an Innova car, which caused her serious mental stress.
Police suspect that continuous pressure and harassment over dowry demands may have led the doctor to take the extreme step. Based on initial investigation, a case has been registered against the victim’s husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law. Further investigation is underway.
