In recent developments into the Haldwani case, the Uttarakhand police have registered an FIR against 19 individuals (named) and 5,000 anonymous people, two days following the riots in the Banbhoolpura region of Haldwani. The information was shared by SSP Nainital Prahalad Narayan Meena with the media personnel today.
Meanwhile, the curfew has also been lifted from the outer areas of this violence-hit Uttarakhand town, but it remains in force in the Banbhoolpura area that witnessed arson and vandalism by a mob over the demolition of an illegally-built madrasa on Thursday.
The situation is currently under control, with both the local police force and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) deployed throughout the city, the SSP then added.
“Several people have been taken into custody and miscreants are being identified and searched for them. We have registered an FIR, we are checking the CCTV footage, and evidence is being collected - a total of 1,200 security personnel have been deployed in Haldwani - 2 more death cases were reported today afternoon, and the bodies were recovered yesterday only - we are seeing how their deaths occurred, we didn't get the body at the spot. After post-mortem only we will get to know how they died,” said the SSP.
The shops on the outskirts of the town opened on Saturday but schools remain closed.
"Patrolling is continuously being done in the affected area and the situation is under control," Additional Director General (ADG) of Police, Law and Order, A P Anshuman, who is camping in Haldwani, told a media house.

However, the residents of the Banbhoolpura area, where the curfew is still in force, are being allowed to buy essentials from time to time, the ADG said.
The movement of trains up to Kathgodam has also been resumed, he added.

More than 60 people were hurt on Thursday as locals hurled stones and petrol bombs at municipal workers and police, forcing many police personnel to seek refuge in a police station, which the mob then set on fire.
Seven people, including a journalist, were under treatment on Friday at three different hospitals. Three of them were said to be in a serious condition.
