The atmosphere in the Banbhoolpura area, which witnessed recent mob violence, has returned to normalcy on Monday with the deployment of additional paramilitary forces to maintain law and order, officials confirmed.
Senior Superintendent of Police Prahlad Meena of Nainital assured residents of the curfew-hit area that essential commodities are being supplied, with further provisions expected soon to alleviate any inconvenience.
Notably, extra companies of central paramilitary forces have been stationed at key locations within Banbhoolpura to ensure peace and security.
The administration lifted the curfew in the rest of Haldwani, excluding Banbhoolpura, on Sunday, thereby streamlining essential services for residents.
Facilities such as the Banbhoolpura Primary Health Centre and local medical stores have resumed operations, while gas cylinders are being provided to residents, officials informed.
Additionally, gas cylinder distributions have extended to other curfew-affected areas like Kidwai Nagar, Indira Nagar, and Nai Basti, as stated by A P Vajpayee, the general manager of Kumaon Mandal Development Corporation.
The administration has taken proactive steps to ensure the continued supply of vegetables, milk, and other essential items through vendors, easing the burden on residents.
Moreover, bolstering security measures, additional companies of central paramilitary forces have been deployed at sensitive locations, adding to the existing deployment of over 1,000 soldiers.
On February 8, six individuals lost their lives while 60 others suffered injuries during clashes related to the demolition of an illegal madrasa and namaz place, police have arrested 30 people on charges of incitement.
Raids are ongoing to apprehend others involved.
