Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh, during his visit to Siliguri on Saturday, extolled the natural beauty of North Bengal and urged every Indian to explore the region while enjoying its beauty and relishing the cultural heritage.
“This is my first visit to the region. The place is beautiful, with a famous mountain located here. It’s a destination that every Indian should visit," the former Indian off-spinner said.
"I will take out time and visit the region again,” Singh added while interacting with media persons at the Bagdogra airport.
Harbhajan's visit to North Bengal comes ahead of his scheduled inauguration of the Ramesh Vijayalakshmi Memorial Stadium at Vidyabihar, Purnia, in Bihar where he had studied.
Recollecting his past, the former spinner shared, “Since I am here, I will visit my school and learn again,” chuckling as he recalled his days as a student.
Commenting on the ongoing cricket series, Harbhajan expressed confidence in the Indian team.
“The Indian team will win 3-2 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” he remarked.
The cricketer’s enthusiasm for north Bengal highlights the region’s potential as a tourist destination.
Singh’s admiration for its scenic beauty and cultural richness aligns with efforts to boost tourism in the area.
North Bengal, located in the northern region of West Bengal, India, holds strategic significance.
It borders Nepal, Bhutan, and Sikkim to the north, Gangetic Bengal to the south, Bangladesh and Assam to the east, and Bihar to the west.
