An archery coach of a school in Haridwar was booked for allegedly raping a 14-year-old student, police officials confirmed on Friday.
Officials said a case relating to the crime committed by the suspected coach was registered at the police station, after which the accused was nabbed. The accused has been identified as Pawan, a native of Haryana.
On Thursday, the student’s father filed a complaint alleging that he had raped his daughter and threatened to kill her if she reported it, police said.
The complaint against the coach states that the accused raped the underage girl in October last year and then threatened to kill the victim if she spoke against him.
After months of silence, the girl finally decided to speak about the crime and reportedly told police how the assault was committed against her by the archery coach.
The Kankhal police station, after hearing the ordeal of the victim, registered an FIR and swung into action, they said.
Kankhal Station House Officer Devendra Rawat said the victim’s statement has been recorded and her medical examination done.
He added that all procedures of the case are being formalised, and the accused will be arrested soon.
