Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday announced former MLA Harmeet Singh Sandhu as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for the upcoming byelection to the Tarn Taran Assembly seat. The seat had fallen vacant after the death of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal in June.
The Election Commission is yet to announce the date of the bypoll.
Announcing Sandhu’s candidature while addressing a gathering in Tarn Taran, Mann said, “He is your choice.” The CM was in Tarn Taran to launch rural link road projects.
Sandhu, who had joined the AAP in July, is a three-time MLA from Tarn Taran. He was elected as an Independent in 2002 and won the 2007 and 2012 elections on a Shiromani Akali Dal ticket. He, however, lost the next two elections in 2017 and 2022.
