Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal's wife, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, on Friday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for their support after the attack on her husband in Nanded. She also appreciated the prompt action taken to investigate the security breach.
In a post on X, Harsimrat thanked PM Modi for quickly directing central investigating agencies to work with Maharashtra Police on the case. She said Modi had personally called to check on Sukhbir Badal's health and wished him a speedy recovery after the attack inside a gurdwara in Nanded, Maharashtra. Harsimrat said the Prime Minister's concern and support meant a lot to her family, the SAD and people in Punjab. She also thanked him for taking immediate note of the incident and ordering central agencies to coordinate with Maharashtra Police during the investigation.
In another post, Harsimrat expressed her gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for contacting her and checking on Sukhbir's condition. She also thanked him for assuring her that the incident would be thoroughly investigated.
Harsimrat said the attack was a serious violation of the basic principles of Sikhism and appreciated Shah's commitment to ensuring a proper investigation.
Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Modi spoke to Harsimrat over the phone and asked about Sukhbir Badal's health after the attack at a gurdwara in Nanded.
Sukhbir Badal, the SAD chief and former Punjab deputy chief minister, suffered a wound of about five centimetres on his right forearm after he was attacked with a dagger at the gurdwara, Nanded District Collector Rahul Kardele said.
Badal and a police officer who was injured while trying to protect him are both stable and out of danger, the Collector said.
