Shiromani Akali Dal MP and former Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal tied a ‘rakhi’ to her brother, Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who is lodged in Nabha jail, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
Harsimrat said she was initially not allowed to meet Majithia by the jail administration, allegedly on the orders of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
“They (jail authorities) refused to open the gate and my vehicles were not allowed,” she told mediapersons in Nabha. She said every sister has the right to meet her brother on Raksha Bandhan.
She said she had been seeking permission for the last four days to tie a rakhi to Majithia. The jail authorities later allowed her to meet him.
Harsimrat said Majithia was in “chardi kala” (high spirits) and had sent a message to supporters that he was doing well. She accused the AAP government of targeting him with “false” cases because he was “exposing” them on various issues.
“The AAP government is rattled. They have nothing against Majithia,” she claimed, adding that she had been trying to meet him for one and a half months without success.
Majithia was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on June 25 in a disproportionate assets case involving the alleged laundering of Rs 540 crore in “drug money.” He is in judicial custody till August 14.
