Haryana additional director general of police (ADGP) Y Puran Kumar was found dead with a gunshot wound at his home in Sector 11, Chandigarh, on Tuesday afternoon. Senior officials from Chandigarh Police arrived at his residence and are inspecting the scene.

 

As per senior police officials, Puran Kumar died on the spot. Initial investigations indicate that he shot himself with his official weapon.

 

Puran Kumar, a 2001-batch IPS officer, had earlier served as additional director-general of police (ADGP, Rohtak range). He was transferred as inspector-general at the Police Training Centre, Sunaria in Rohtak, on September 25.

 

An engineering graduate, he was born on May 19, 1973, and was due to retire on May 31, 2033.

 

“He shot himself at his private residence and died on the spot,” one of the investigating officials said.
